When Splitwise is the better pick.

Repartim is built around an event that ends: a dinner, a trip, a weekend. Splitwise is built around people who keep sharing costs indefinitely, and for that it is the better tool.

  • Roommates or couples keeping one running balance for months or years
  • Expenses in several currencies inside the same group
  • Settling up through a payment service linked to the app, where Splitwise offers one
  • A native app that keeps working without a connection

Moving an open balance over.

There's no import, and there doesn't need to be: what matters from Splitwise is who owes whom right now, and that fits in one expense.

  • Create an event and add the same people
  • Add one expense per person who is owed money, paid by them, for the people who owe them, with the amounts Splitwise shows
  • Share the link. Everything from here on is added as it happens, and settling up clears the old balance along with the new one

FAQ

Things people ask.

Is Repartim really free, with no daily limit?

Yes. There is no cap on events or expenses, an event can have up to 50 people, and receipt scanning is included. Scanning has a few limits that keep it free, such as about 20 photos every few minutes per person; typing an amount in by hand is never limited.

Do my friends need to install an app or create an account?

No. They open the link you share, in whatever browser their phone has, say who they are and start adding expenses. Repartim can be added to the home screen, but nobody has to.

Can I import my Splitwise groups?

Not automatically. Carry over what is still owed with one expense per person who is owed money, as described above, and start the rest fresh.

Does Repartim show who owes whom as we go?

It shows the running total while the event is open, and works out the fewest payments when you settle up. If you want to see where things stand before that, "Preview the settlement" shows what settling up would come to without ending the event.
